Plein air pastel painting is my thing!

My easel is often set-up by the side of a road, somewhere. I’ve made a pastel painting in every US state. In June 2015, I completed my self-directed Fifty State Plein Air Painting Project. Since then I have been exhibiting these pastel paintings in New England and Pennsylvania galleries. You can take the whole trip with me and see all 50 state paintings online at: http://fiftystatepleinairpaintingproject.blogspot.com/

I do some larger studio work in pastel, too. During the 38 years that I maintained a studio in Pennsylvania my watercolor and pastel paintings were exhibited in galleries and museums, including 13 one-woman shows. I have participated in Door County, WI and Wayne, PA Plein Air Festivals. My garden and plant illustrations have appeared in Woman’s Day and Horticulture magazines. I studied illustration at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and pastel painting with teachers: Albert Handel, Doug Dawson, Lorenzo Chavez, Sally Strand, Jane Shoenfeld, Kim English and Susan Ogilvie. My work has been awarded often; most recently, Best of Show Vermont Pastel Society, September 2014; Most Luminous Landscape, Vermont Pastel Society Member Show, April 2016; and Chicago Pastel Painters Award – For Pastels Only Cape Cod, July 2014.
I am a member of Pastel Society of America as well as Vermont Pastel Society.
My work is shown year-round by Canal Street Art Gallery at 23 Canal Street, in historic downtown, Bellows Falls, Vermont (802.289.0104). My Brattleboro studio is open by appointment. Call me at 802.254.7246 or email me [email protected].
