I am new to pastels and can’t put them down. In the past I have used charcoal and oils but love the immediacy of pastels as well as the vibrant colors and textures that can be created. I began doing artwork at the age of 10 when my parents sent my sister and I to “art lessons”. Unbeknownst to us, the teacher was a renowned commission portrait artist in Buffalo, New York, Lazlo Szabo. What I experienced there has been with me all my life, though my actual doing of art has been sporadic at best. About a year ago, after taking a class in portrait drawing with Dawn Miller at the Fletcher Farm School for Arts & Crafts in Ludlow, VT I began doing portraits with pastels. A class at Fletcher with Robert Carston gave me the added inspiration to focus on pastel work. I look forward to meeting others who have an enthusiastic appreciation for this medium.
